The roads are well maintained 2 lane drives. We will get great Photo shoot opportunities with a number of dzongs & pagodas along the route.

  3. Day 3: 04th March 2019 Paro – Tigers Nest – Paro

Post breakfast, we head out to sweat it out!! Yes we are talking about hiking it up to ‘The Famous Tigers Nest’.  One of the most famous landmarks of Paro is the Taktsang Monastery, popular as Tigers Nest. Legend has it that Guru Rinpoche flew into Bhutan from Tibet sitting on a tiger & this is the spot he landed on. A visit to this monastery is a must when visiting Paro not because of its popularity but the views that we get enroute are worth the efforts... It’s located at an hour’s drive away from the town. Situated on a ledge, when one looks from below, it looks as if; the entire monastery is hanging in the thin air.

An hour’s trek & the monastery finally comes into view…. & its well worth it. The last stretch across a narrow 3 ft. ledge leads us to the monastery. Lunch will be served at the monastery’s café; Taksang Café.

Post lunch, we drive to Chele La Pass. ‘La’ in the mountain language means mountain pass. Located at 3800m (13,000ft), between the valley of Paro and Haa is Chele La, the highest road pass in the country. The drive to Chele La is through dense spruce and larch forests. Depending on season you will encounter various sights such as frozen river, waterfall, rhododendron forest and yaks grazing peacefully.  On a clear day, you can view Mt. Jumolhari (Bhutan's most sacred peak at over 22,000 ft) along with Jichu Drake and adjoining peaks to the North West, as well as the view of both the valley (Paro and Haa).

In the evening we are free to drive around the town, exploring the town & using this time for photo shoots/ shopping. We meet back in the hotel for dinner. Tired enough with the fulfilled day we had and excited enough to explore upcoming days with these feelings we are off to sleep!

  4. Day 4: 05th March 2019 Paro – Punakha: 120 Kms.

Today is one of the most beautiful drive days that we will see, as we drive along the green range with coniferous trees. Hence, we depart after an early breakfast so that we can have multiple pit stops. Enroute we cross the beautiful Dochula pass.

We check into the Dhensa Boutique resort followed by lunch. The most famous image of Punakha is the Punakha Dzong, also known as the Palace of Happiness – situated at the confluence of the Mo & Pho rivers. The monastery belongs to Dugpa Kargyutpa order or Red Sect of Buddhism and is said to be enriched with a large number of Thangkas or paintings.

‘Chai Pe Charcha with Head Monk’ - The lives led by those who choose to be a part of the monastic order is very harsh, more so, under such trying climatic conditions. Over a cup of tibetan tea, we meet with the head monks, understanding their way of life, giving us a glimpse into their daily routine, food habits etc.

Post the insightful conversation, we continue with our town exploration. We head to the famous suspension bridge for that must have perfect picture! We explore the local market to see if we find that perfect souvenir to take back home.

We return back to our hotel for the perfectly cooked hot Tibetan dinner.

  5. Day 5: 06th March 2019 Punakha – Thimphu: 90 Kms.

For those with the adrenalin rush, a spot of White Water Rafting is just what the doctor ordered! We row down the Pho River, approx 16 kms course with about 15 rapids of grade 2-4 class.

We drift past the imposing 17th century Punakha Dzong watching the world’s rarest bird, the white belled Heron in its natural habitat and Kingfishers frolicking on riverbank - all these topped off with spectacular sight of serene lush green alpine valleys.

Quenching our adrenalin thirst we now proceed to satisfy our hunger. Lunch is at famous Chimi Lhakhang Cafe with tables lined up against the window overlooking Yoaka and Pana villages.

Post lunch, we head out to our next destination; Thimphu - a short 2 hrs. We check into the Le Meridien, Thimphu. The time is free for us for a free drive around Thimphu or to rest. Return to our hotel for dinner.

We walk around this charming city, enjoying the hospitality of its delightful citizens & indulge in some shopping of handicrafts & exquisite metalwork.

Thimphu offers the best opportunity to briefly break away from the tour itinerary. In addition to its traditional Buddhist sights and attractions, it offers cafes, bars, nightclubs and restaurants. Finding a balance between the esoteric and espresso – the old and the new – is the key to getting the most out of this charming city.
