HOW I GOT LEH’D – PART 8

And so we continue… I was pretty sure last night was a dream. But then, I also remember the smell of late night chai as we sat together, huddled, looking at the sky at 2am, watching the Milky Way. What a spectacular moment that was? As I lay in bed, I started to wonder. When I write the most memorable parts of this trip or prepare a list of must-dos and must-watch, how was I supposed to narrow down the list to a few? The trip seemed to be getting better day-by-day. Our morning breakfast was very different here. We …

HOW I GOT LEH’D – PART 7

The night we reached Jispa, I took way too long to fall asleep. I realized that it was partly due to the after effects of the long drive, which should ideally have put me to sleep, or probably it was because I slept quite a bit on the drive. But I think one of the main reasons for this was the drive across the Bara lacha la, where the snow was so close and its whiteness probably resulted in an overwhelming after effect. This allowed me to finish writing the previous night itself, giving me time in the morning to …

HOW I GOT LEH’D – PART 6

Do you know how it feels to have that rhythmic hum in your head? That was something I usually experienced when I did my breathing exercises during yoga class, especially when I repeated the words ‘Om,’ known for its positive vibrations all across a person’s body. I felt the same rhythmic hum in my whole body as I sat at the Diskit monastery the next morning, about three hours before we were to leave for Tso Moriri. The previous afternoon, this same monastery shone white in the near-afternoon sun, but the morning sun, gave the monastery a muted white, with …

#The Snow Leopard Trail

When I was packing my luggage with trepidation and uncertainty, considering that this was my very first adventure trip, I could only think of cold weathers, lifestyle changes, food troubles, stomach troubles and not to mention elusive wild creatures.  I asked myself “Why did I plan this trip?” I should have probably stayed with a small trek around Mumbai. But, in my heart I knew that I wanted to do something very different. I wanted to get away from the city and challenge myself to achieve something that I had not done so far. Reminding myself of this, I set …

HOW I GOT LEH’D – PART 4

And so we continue……. This was my fourth Parle G with tea. The biscuit was the fourth but my tea was the second. I usually don’t keep track, but the view that I was looking at would undoubtedly compel me to stay a bit longer which would eventually mean more tea and biscuit. But that’s just part of what I wanted to say – what was truly capturing my attention was the spectacular view of the ‘valley of flowers’ also known as the ‘orchard of ladakh’ also known as the nubra valley. We were at the monastery, which was up …

HOW I GOT LEH’D – PART 3

And so we continue……. In Leh, the early mornings remind me of this amazing brown doughnut topped with blue and white icing. I used to wonder if I could just bite into it, so that I could savour the succulent brown mountains and landscape topped with the bluest of blue skies and specks of cloud. This was my view from my beautiful room at Grand Dragon, on our first day at Leh. Having decided to start our day a little late, we all gathered for a late breakfast that comprised of a complete indian & international spread.  We had two …

The Coffee Trail

It was just a narrow road, but on either sides and as far as my eyes could take me ahead, it was a world of greens, and nestled in the green leaves were beautiful brown coffee beans – a sight to behold for a coffee lover like me. I already felt at home on the first day of my drive through Coorg and Chikmaglur, and was extremely excited with the prospect of visiting a part of India, which smelled of coffee even as you took its name. And that is why I lovingly call this trip a coffee trail, because …
